non clinical postpartum support

Hi, I'm Janel. Also known as Jaq.

I am a postpartum support worker, which is very similar to a postpartum doula, except I aim to provide support in any way you want and need it, even pass the typical postpartum weeks. I grew up in South London, but currently live in Bedford, where I am studying to become a midwife, sonographer and an independent and supplementary prescriber. (I haven't got a nice picture yet... I'll upload it soon).

Why did I decide to start my own business?

My journey to starting my own business came from my love for providing medical and practical support to women. Then I had my son in 2025 and everything changed for me, the sleepless nights, breastfeeding challenges, postpartum depression, the emotional rollercoaster that nobody quite prepared me for after having my baby. We hear all these stories about how rough postpartum can be and we think we can handle it, until we're in way over our heads and we're struggling. I am starting this business 17 months postpartum, after years of saying I wanted to start, and I am still struggling immensely. My grandma and mom are both in Jamaica, my dad and his wife live in London, me and my son's dad split, it's just me. I moved here to study, fell pregnant and had horrible pelvic girdle pain so went on maternity leave early, so I wasn't close with anyone on my course, came back half way through the course when everyone already formed their own cliques, so it's hard to form friendships, especially while still battling postpartum depression.

With that being said, I've been seeing postpartum doulas all over my social medias but some of them charge extortionate prices that I cannot afford, especially while studying and doing placement, only working a couple of hours per week, hardly bringing in money.

Putting my passion to help mothers and their families during the most critical time, and providing practical help where needed, I decided to start my own business and this is where we are now. The beginning of a long journey.
